El uso de Twitter en elecciones
Un informe publicado por el Pew Internet revela cómo las redes sociales se usaron entre los políticos y sus votantes en la última campaña electoral de los Estados Unidos: el 22% de internautas estadounidenses usó alguna plataforma social como Twitter, Facebook o MySpace para estar al tanto del proceso.
Aaron Smith, principal investigador y autor del informe, destaca que el uso de redes sociales ha crecido de manera importante y diversa, al igual que la actividad política en estos sitios. Además, refiere que “estas plataformas son utilizadas por individuos políticamente activos de todas las edades e ideologías para obtener noticias, comunicarse con los demás, y ofrecer sus opiniones sobre los temas que son importantes para ellos”.
Twitter, para estar ‘conectados’ con la política
- 16% utiliza Twitter para obtener información sobre la campaña o los candidatos.
- 12% utiliza Twitter para controlar los resultadoselectorales que ya se produjeron.
- 11% sigue a un candidato o grupo político de otros
- 9% publica enlaces de contenido político en su cuenta.
En conjunto, esto significa que el 28% de los usuarios de Twitter (que representan el 2% de la población adulta usuario de Internet) utilizó el sitio para participar en las elecciones de 2010 de una manera u otra.
La principal razón para seguir grupos políticos en redes sociales o en Twitter es que les ayuda a sentirse más conectados con los candidatos o los partidos.
Los resultados se basan en una encuesta telefónica nacional a 2.257 adultos realizada entre el 3 y el 24 de noviembre pasado.
